Not long ago, I took a bus trip here in Cambodia to look at a school in Ratanakiri province, about ten hours away from Phnom Penh, and I was shocked by what I saw.
As you may know, about four years ago, a friend of mine had appealed to me because he wanted to launch a school in an available building he had found in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. GEV accepted the challenge. Today, almost 200 students are in daily attendance and forty faculty and staff members are dedicated to the goal of helping train these young students to be the global leaders of tomorrow.
Never having been to Cambodia before, I had not seen the dire poverty in the outlying parts of the country. Recent trips by bus to provinces between five to ten hours from the capital have very much opened my eyes to the tremendous need they have here. Many schools are little more than wooden shells, with floors, walls and roofs in urgent need of repair or construction. Every day these brave teachers I have met and their students, hungry for knowledge, show up to the only structures they have, to try and gain an education.
In separate programs, we are addressing the need for properly trained and certified teachers, as well as supplying the educational materials and resources that are needed in the classrooms, but herein I would like to focus on the schools themselves. I am asking you to please help me to pay for the building materials we need, the cost of having it all transported to the distressed schools we are identifying, and then having local construction crews build or repair the needed school infrastructure. If you are interested, I will send you an electronic newsletter where you can see our progress as we go. No one else is doing this right now and so you and I are the ones presented with the opportunity to step up and make a difference. In truth, I have already started doing this, and so it’s not an option for me, but I ask you respectfully to please join me by donating what you are able to. Call me, message me or email me and we can find a time to get together in the coming weeks and talk about how we can work together in some way.
Thank you kindly for considering my request.
